Considering the media ruckus, it is not surprising that you would ask yourself: "Does mesotherapy work?"

Popularized by a French doctor in the 1950s, mesotherapy is now considered to be an increasingly acceptable medical technique.

Work in a medical spa setting is done either by physicians or dermatologists. Other highly trained medical professionals such as obstetricians, gynecologists and pediatricians are becoming interested in mesotherapy as well.

Mesotherapy incorporates the use of different drugs to reduce fat cells, increase circulation and generally distribute medication throughout your body, if needed.

In fact, mesotherapy doctors over the past few decades have made claims that mesotherapy can treat a wide range of ailments such as cellulite, stretch marks, hair loss, and weight loss to name the best known.

Since these ailments plague so many of us, there are a lot of skeptics who want proof to answer their burning question "does mesotherapy work?"

There are very few clinical studies that verify the claims mesotherapy has made over the years. This unfortunate reality has lead many to assume that this particular therapy is invalid.

In this regard, plastic surgeons tend to be the most outspoken. As surgeons and mesotherapists are both able to treat issues like fat deposits, territorial protection by the long standing cosmetic surgery community is inevitable.

With the publication of clinical studies in accepted peer review journals, mesotherapy will gain acceptance - from potential patients as well as the medical community. At that point, more surgeons will fully understand and endorse mesotherapy.

Without this general medical endorsement who does mesotherapy? Work at home mothers like me, for one. However, all sorts of professionals working outside of the home have become interested in mesotherapy. Typically in their early 30s, mesotherapy patients - both women and men - have been exclaiming their successes with the process for years.

The explanation for this success is also mesotherapy's biggest selling point: customization.

Much like with cosmetic surgery procedures, every mesotherapy patient receives a personalized treatment program that addresses his or her individual body type and needs. It is the basis of mesotherapy practice and a primary reason that mesotherapy does work so well for so many.

Can mesotherapy replace the need for cosmetic surgery? Only a mesotherapist can answer that for you. In the last decade, there has been an explosion in awareness about body sculpting surgeries. It has left many people looking for a gentler way to get the same results.

For example, liposuction may still be used in conjunction with mesotherapy for amplified results. Otherwise, mesotherapy may be used exclusively.

So, does mesotherapy work? It has for thousands of people since the 1950s. It could work for you as well but a trip to your local mesotherapist for an assessment will help you find out for sure.

In the past two years, the media has mentioned mesotherapy a lot of times. From lavish celebrity mavens to local community moms, this procedure is becoming well known as the liposuction alternative and medical spas are popping up across North America to fill the demand.
